Looking For A Tree Specialist? – Secrets Arborists Would Not Tell You!

Have you decided on hiring a tree specialist? Well, that is a good idea if you want to remove or prune a tree. But it’s always better to do some research on your own before hiring the Arborists. Going the extra mile always helps you to hire the best tree specialist or any professional for that matter.

This blog concentrates on a few important things that the specialists are not likely to share with you. So, let’s get them straight here.

Secrets your tree specialists may not share with you

  1. It is not necessary to routinely prune your trees every three to five years. Yet, it is a good idea to prune a tree with deadwood. Opt for pruning when the dead branches are more than two inches in diameter.
  2.     Several signs mean your tree might be in big trouble.
  • If you find out mushrooms or other fungi growing on your tree, opt for inspection before it’s too late.
  • If your tree branches are dying from the tips, especially at the top, maybe the tree is already a goner.
  • The tree has not flared out at the bottom. Instead, it goes straight down into the ground.
  1. Right after getting an estimate for the work, you may think they are gouging you. It is quite natural because you may not have any relevant knowledge. Here is a rough idea for you.

A three-person crew usually has more than $200,000 in equipment on your property. Each guy in the team is possibly making less than $20 per hour.

As the reputable Arborists would claim – they pay 33% in worker compensation. So, as you can see, here they probably aren’t making a significant profit.

  1. Don’t just ask if your Arborist service providers have liability insurance, certificate, and workers’ comp. Ask for a copy of the certificate and if possible, call the company.
  2. It’s better to schedule the work on the offseason. It will get you better deals. If you get a high price in May for tree removal; that may not be time-sensitive. Ask for the winter price.

You are advised to do so because that’s a ghost time for arborists, especially during Thanksgiving and Christmas. So, they are more likely to cut you a break at that time.

  1. Your arborist may not have time to help out your neighbour. Is your tree removal expert coming for an appointment between April and October? If yes then he/she may not have time to go over to your neighbour’s or friend’s house and talk to them too. So, if you have anyone else who needs tree services advice, mention it when you’re scheduling an appointment.

  1. If someone decides on ‘topping’ your tree because it will be ‘safer’, you better look for someone else. Also, never hire an arborist who uses climbing spikes (even when they are not taking the tree down). These make wounds in the tree and make decay pockets.

Well, all these facts discussed above are to mention a few. We, JDS Group, will be discussing more in our other blogs. So, please keep in touch!
